Meet Rocky.
Previously known as "one of the cats" slash "Gary", Rocky had been moving from one home to another because people thought of him as aggressive and untamed.
He responded to being called Rocky just as fast as he started marking every corner as his territory. My parents knew that I can become so attached to pets, just as fast as they started marking me their territory.
I've kept over a dozen of dwarf hamsters, a couple of fighting fish and a few cats before Rocky. Most died or being ran over but only my ever growing and fat dwarf hamsters had to be sold. My family also knew the reason why I decided to name him Rocky.
When I was 7, a stray (mom)cat gave birth outside our house, and in the end only 2 survived. Growing up with 3 brothers, all I knew then was just WWE. There was the Undertaker, Stone Cold and of course, The Rock. So I named the mom, Stungkul and the two kitten, Rocky and Kitty. Dad said ones with lighter colored fur usually don't make it that long and that's why Kitty died. Stungkul only came over when she's hungry so there's just this grey LDH kitten to take care of.
One of our neighbours was also an animal lover. He had monkeys, birds, chicken, cats - you name it. One time when I stopped by his place, he said that Rocky was pretty and that he jokingly said he might steal it from me one day. That freaked me out.
Upon returning from our annual family trip, Rocky was nowhere to be found. We spent hours and days searching for her until eventually, we gave up. I even tried to sneak into my neighbour's house just to see if she was there. My parents said it wasn't nice of me to think of them that way so for years, I pretended I've put that behind me until this so called Gary came along.
Rocky is the first cat that my parents let me keep after so many years and eventhough he never stops making a complete mess of our house, we still love him nonetheless. So I guess the reason why I chose him as my icon is because he is the love of my life. The end.
