Meeting HRH Prince Mateen

NB:
I hope to not get into any trouble for posting this up. This is meant as a general post with no intention of breaking anyone's heart.

This requires no introduction, so I'll get to my point.

We sat and watched for 90 minutes, none registered much for me. My sister was already half blushed and excited, constantly asking if we were going to ask the prince for a photo. We sprinted across the field, not because we were racing to get to him, but because we both needed to calm our nerves.

I was barely catching my breath when my sister told me to get a photo of them together. He was quick and always photo-ready, and everything went in a blink. I was snapped back into reality as we left to sprint back to our seats.

I had never met Prince Mateen in person, prior to this event. Not up close. Many years ago, we sat across the room in a dark restaurant, barely noticing each other's presence. So this moment marked the first and the last of it.

At the end of the night, we shook hands, and I uttered "Good Game Well Played" as my hand slipped from his sweaty palm. It was a very strange moment - to see how puzzled he was when I held out my hand. It was two people, with the same birthdate separated by one exact year, bonded through one handshake. If I could take it back, I would but that was the impression I left. An impression that wouldn't have mattered anyway.

(In my head, I kept wanting to apologise for my lack of respect in light of this matter)

The next morning, I was bombarded with questions by friends who saw the selfie I took with him. The funny thing about it was, I was not exactly swooned by any of it. It was nice to meet him in person, to learn what a passionate sportsman he is and yes, pleasant to look at but reality was quick to set-in for me to realise that he is the prince of Brunei and dreaming of the unlikely events would simply be a waste of my time.

So I'll just leave this here, for memory sake.

Ladies, there are just photos - and sometimes, there are photos that do not speak a word at all.
