Alhamdulillah, ever since I've created the Funds for Furry Friends Page , we had received a number of generous donations that had tremendously helped us financially especially in terms of medical bills.
Of course, my initial goals were to use any of the money we've received to neuter my male cats first. So far, we've neutered 6 cats all thanks to our kind and generous friends! Only yesterday, Miko and Miki had a successful castration procedure and were on their way to recovery. They were quite upset about staying at the vet, but it's all good now.
These past weeks, I've been going to the vet a lot. First, I noticed that Basel (means Brave) had his runny nose for much longer than I thought, and he wasn't responding to the antibiotics. After taking him to the vet, we were told that he was slightly underweight for his age and that he had ulcers on his tongue. Poor Basel had to be given antibiotic shots and an immune booster every 3 days until his condition got better. Alhamdullilah, after 3 vet visits, gained a little and started to feel much better. The picture below was when I first took him to the vet:
Cats tend to get sick around the same time, which means - I would need to keep bringing cats or kittens to the vet. Rama and her kittens are now still recovering from really bad fungal infections, and one of the kittens (whom I now named Bonnie) somehow broke her hind legs. One of the legs had gotten better, but the other one still needs attention. Since she's still very small, the vet was not able to put on a cast but had to come up with an alternative option.
Rama and the kittens had completed the first round of their fungal treatment (10 days) and now they're off medication for a week. Unfortunately, all the kittens have ulcers inside their mouth so now they're currently on antibiotics twice a day. As for Bonnie, the alternative option wasn't so successful so I now have to give her therapy and massage her leg until it gets better.
Our next vet visit will be on the 20th of June, so I hope we'll see some improvement in her leg as well as the overall condition of all the kittens.
Let's get back to Basel. Since he's now feeling a lot better, he had unfortunately passed the virus to his brother, Chip. He also has a small ulcer on his tongue, a runny nose, and fleas :( The vet said I should take him for grooming because of all the fleas eggs on his fur.
Most of my cats in the cat house are manifested with fleas, which never really happened before. The treatment for fleas is quite pricey so I've only been able to buy fleas powder and hoping that it would eventually work. Our wishlist is to be able to purchase any of the Frontline treatments from Shopee or Lazada but my current budget just doesn't permit it. Spot-on treatment at the vets is also beyond my financial capability at the moment, and I can't really afford to treat all 30 cats at the cat house. Rama was the only one who had gotten her spot-on treatment this week so to protect herself and her kittens from getting infected.
I am honestly truly touched by all the kindness I've received from friends and colleagues. Their generous donations had been so incredibly helpful this month, and I've mentioned their names in my prayers over and over again because only God can repay such kindness, many more folds than how much they've given. I've also talked about them to my cats and I hope they would send a prayer or two for them. May Allah SWT shower them with sustenance, abundance, good health, prosperity, long and healthy life and always protect them from any harm or danger. Amiin Ya Rabbal Alamin.
It's only the second week of June, but here is how much I've spent on pets so far:
Normally, I don't go beyond $400 but this time, I could feel my wallet getting lighter by the day. It makes me feel anxious just to think that this month's payroll will be on the 28th of the month and since I only receive my salary on a monthly basis instead of a bi-weekly payroll system, this month feels very long and extremely challenging. I try to keep my head up, of course, but I have to think ahead.
I still have a couple of vet appointments to go to this month, and their food and litter supplies somehow had run low much faster than I anticipated. Insya Allah, with all the money I have left and for as long as I don't shop or eat out, I shall be able to afford these.
To conclude this post, from the bottom of my heart and deep down in my cats' hearts - we just want to say thank you to all our generous friends. We shall continue to pray for you and we will be forever indebted to your kindness. I hope you know that your act of kindness made a huge difference in someone's life, and the impact is so meaningful. You brought ease and I am so grateful for you, so thank you thank you thank you! Many many virtual hugs!
